Jon H. Hoem, MSc
CEO
Jon has a degree in microelectronics and organizational development from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTH/NTNU), as well as 30 years of experience with development and commercialisation of advanced medical devices at Vingmed Sound, Medistim, AtriCure, Miracor Medical Systems, Ablative Solutions, CorFlow Therapeutics, Zühlke Engineering, and Pacertool. He developed Vingmed’s first 3D ultrasound probe used for heart imaging from the oesophagus and was responsible for Medistim’s first product launches in Europe, Japan, and the US. He is the inventor and co-inventor of 12 patents related to diagnosing and treating the coronary microcirculation after acute heart attacks. He is currently an independent Board member at Medistim, and his motto is “Quality ● Persistence ● Continuous Innovation”.

David Borge Larsen
Nordic sales manager
David has over 18 years of experience in sales, training, and servicing of medical equipment. As Sales Director at Augere Medical, he focuses on improving patient care through groundbreaking AI solutions and careful customer service. Previously, he worked as a Key Account Manager at Dräger, where he developed sales strategies and built lasting partnerships. David also has experience as a product specialist for medical devices at Fysiopartner AS and Merivaara Corp. He has an engineering degree in electronics from Sør-Trøndelag University College and a degree in business administration from Trondheim Business School

Tor Jan Berstad, MSc
CTO
Tor Jan has a diverse background, including work as an electrician, installation supervisor, and computer scientist, before becoming CTO at Augere in 2023. He has a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Oslo, where he played an active role in the student council and other student organisations. Tor Jan has participated in several projects and publications, especially in artificial intelligence and medical technology. He has been with the company since it was founded in 2018.

Daniel Mork Engen, MSc
QARA Manager
Daniel has a degree in theoretical physics from Swansea University in Wales. He has worked at Augere Medical since 2021 and has become a central part of the quality and regulatory work for ISO 13485 certification and CE marking. Daniel is the person responsible for regulatory compliance (Regulation (EU) 2017/745 of the European Parliament and of the Council).

Ole-Christian Hagenes, MSc
Data Scientist
Ole-Christian has a master’s degree in Image Analysis from the University of Oslo and is a certified service electronics technician for medical equipment. He joined Augere Medical in 2019 and plays a key role in developing our AI model. Ole-Christian is primarily responsible for the software development of the product. Before starting his studies in 2014, he worked in the subsea industry in Stavanger as a rental and maintenance coordinator.

Thomas de Lange, MD, PhD
Chief Medical Scientist
Thomas is an adjunct professor and gastroenterologist with 30 years of clinical endoscopy experience and research in endoscopic image documentation, image analysis with artificial intelligence, and colorectal cancer prevention. He has led several large research projects, including a Norwegian randomized study of 140,000 people comparing faecal occult blood testing with sigmoidoscopy. Thomas has played a central role in theoretical and practical endoscopy training in Norway, Sweden and Scandinavia for the past 25 years. His primary position is as senior consultant at the endoscopy unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Mölndal and Gothenburg, and at the Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine in Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

Siv Kristianne Berg Furholm, CRN
Clinical Application Specialist
Siv is a trained nurse with extensive experience in public hospitals. She worked in the Department of Gastroenterology at Oslo university hospital, Rikshospitalet for 7 years, starting in 2004. She has also participated in research projects for OUS for 13 years, particularly in colonoscopy, and collaborated with Knut Lundin on coeliac disease studies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was an assistant infection control officer in Enebakk municipality. In recent years, Siv has worked as a CRA for IQVIA in Scandinavia on studies related to, amongst other things, dermatology, neurology and gastrointestinal diseases. She has considerable experience in training and monitoring study patients.

Arne Nilsen, BSc
European Sales and Marketing Manager
Arne has thirty years of experience with sales of advanced medical devices. He started his sales career at Vingmed Sound, establishing a sales office in Dubai and managing sales in the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. Later, he worked as a Sales Manager for GE Ultrasound Cardiac Ultrasound in Europe. He then joined Medi-Stim ASA, where he optimised the product portfolio and improved the distribution network in Europe and Asia, including establishing a direct sales organisation in Germany. Since 2009, Arne has been the owner and manager of Master Surgery Systems AS, an independent distributor for thoracic and vascular surgery in Scandinavia, representing companies such as Scanlan International, MedXpert, Xenosys, and Mindray Ultrasound.

Pia Smedsrud, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Pia Helén Smedsrud is the CEO and co-founder of Augere Medical. She has a medical degree from the University of Oslo and is currently pursuing a PhD in Informatics on AI use in colonoscopy. Pia has previously worked as a clinician at Oslo University Hospital and the Simula Research Laboratory. She has a strong passion for technology and health.

Torbjørn Øye, MBA
Chief Financial Officer
Torbjørn has a master’s degree in economics and business administration from the Norwegian School of Economics. He is a partner at Uniconsult and has over 20 years of experience as a consultant in various finance and accounting management roles. He has been the CFO of several companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Markus Drange, MSc
Machine Learning Engineer
Markus Drange is a machine learning engineer at Augere Medical. He has a strong background in machine learning and works on developing innovative solutions in medical technology. Markus also has experience with deep learning and has helped to improve diagnostics and treatment through advanced algorithms.

Ummya Honey Nipun, MSc
Full Stack Developer
Ummya Honey Nipun is a Software Developer at Augere Medical. She has a varied background in full stack development and Management Information System and works on next-generation software products for Augere, including the ColoCompare project in cooperation with The Research Council of Norway and SimulaMet.

Ali has worked for over a decade at the intersection of leadership, investment, and strategy in life sciences—helping biotech, medtech, and healthtech companies build world-class teams, secure funding, and scale effectively.

Matilde Maardalen, PhD
Machine Learning Engineer
Matilde completed her PhD in biomedical engineering at the University of Oxford in 2025 with an Aker Scholarship. She is highly passionate about medical technology. She has extensive experience in developing innovative cancer therapies, as well as experience as a machine learning engineer working on personalised medicine focusing on early detection and diagnosis of diseases.

Clemens Kuhn-Neureuther
Country Manager Germany
Clemens has started his medical career in 1988 as a paramedic and with a nursing education followed by ten years in the OR as a scrub nurse. Beginning with the new century he started his sales career in the industry as sales representative at Stryker Endoscopy. In 2003 he worked alongside with Arne Nilsen at Medistim Germany to build the German sales force and facilitate the Medistim market launch in Germany. From 2011 to 2018 he was in different roles at Angiodynamics and after a short break he started together with friends a small company, Vivamus Medical GmbH. Here he was responsible for tumour ablations with different energy sources and suppliers. Over time, Clemens became the most experienced person in Irreversible Electroporation (IRE). With now 37 years of medical experience and 25 years sales background he has joined Augere as Country Manager Germany from Q1/25.

Michael Perrot
Clinical Application Specialist Germany
Michael is a registered nurse and has more than 30 years of experience in public and private hospitals. He attained a certificate degree as a specialised nurse in endoscopy and was the Deputy Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at the academic teaching hospital of the Universitätsmedizin Frankfurt (former Krankenhaus Sachsenhausen), leading and training a team. Having implemented new technologies and managed quality assurance, he has a demonstrated passion for helping enable medical practitioners to deliver the next generation of patient outcomes.
Advisory board

Andreas Petlund, PhD
Strategic Advisor
Andreas Petlund has a PhD in computer science, with a background in computer networks and real-time multimedia systems. Until 2017, he led the research group that developed the technology behind Augere’s first product. He has since worked in technical and business development, first as part of the start-up company Forzasys, and then as CEO of Augere from the company’s inception until 2023. Andreas now works with technical system development at Thales Norway.

Michael Riegler, PhD
Scientific Advisor
Michael A. Riegler is a professor at OsloMet and Head of AI Strategy at SimulaMet. With extensive experience in artificial intelligence and healthcare, he has contributed to numerous research projects and publications focusing on the application of advanced AI technologies in the health sector. His work includes developing new methods for data analysis, model training, and implementing AI solutions to improve diagnosis and treatment in clinical settings. Riegler is known for his ability to combine theoretical research with practical applications, making him a leading expert in the field. He recently held a webinar on how artificial intelligence will transform healthcare services, in collaboration with the National Center for eHealth Research. He is part of an expert group for the Norwegian Board of Technology, which has written a report on Artificial Intelligence in the Clinic: Six Trends for Future Healthcare, and most recently, a report on generative artificial intelligence in Norway.

Even Guttormsen
Board Chair
Even has a master’s degree in economics and business administration from the Nord University Business School. He has worked as an auditor and CFO and has over 20 years of experience with investments, restructuring, and sales of businesses across various industries. In recent years, he has worked with medical device companies and played a key role in the consolidation, establishment, and sale of one of Northern Europe’s largest independent distributors for medical imaging.

Kjetil Hestdal, MD, PhD
Board Member
Kjetil Hestdal has a medical degree from the University of Bergen and a PhD in immunology. He has more than 30 years of experience with development and commercialisation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He was one of the first employees at Photocure ASA in 1997 and was head of the company from 2005 to 2018. Photocure developed and commercialised both pharmaceuticals and associated medical devices, either alone or in partnership with larger international companies. Since 2018, Kjetil has been involved as CEO or board member for several start-up companies in the medical device and therapeutic drug sectors.

Prof. Marte Lie Høivik, MD and PhD
Board Member
Marte is an adjunct professor at the Department of Gastroenterology at Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo. She is head of the R&D section and the research group for inflammatory bowel disease, having clinical responsibility for inflammatory bowel disease. She completed her medical education at the University of Southern Denmark and defended her doctorate thesis in Oslo in 2012. Her research interests are related to clinical epidemiology, clinical studies, and translational research, with a focus on biomarker development in inflammatory bowel disease. She leads the IBSEN III study, one of the world’s largest observational studies on patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The study includes over 2,000 patients with inflammatory bowel disease, including five years of monitoring and a large biobank.

Robert Hopen Sagaas
Board Member
Robert completed his radiography degree at Oslo Met in 2001 and has held various roles in the private sector since 2006. At GE Healthcare, Robert spent 4 years in sales and application of ultrasound equipment before becoming the head of General Imaging Ultrasound for Northern Europe. This was followed by 4 years as Account Manager for X-ray equipment. In 2018, Robert became the CEO of Tromp Medical AS, a distributor of goods and services to public and private customers in the radiology sector. As of March 2024, Robert has taken on a new role as Nordic Sales Manager at Tromp Medical.
